JOB SUMMARY:

Accounting Clerk - Cashier oversees and administers the cashier and receptionist functions for the Financial Services department. The position processes a range of public payments and service requests, supports property tax and related transactions and maintains accurate financial and administrative records. This role supports consistent service delivery, cash handling, reconciliation and operational continuity within the department. Performs related duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Training:

High School (Grade 12). One-year full-time accounting-related certificate from an accredited post-secondary institution that includes a minimum of three (3) accounting courses. A satisfactory criminal record check, relevant to the duties of the position, is required.

 

Experience:

One (1) year of related experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Working knowledge of cashiering, basic accounting practices and public service processes in a municipal or similar service environment. Ability to coordinate payments, records, deposits, reconciliations and service requests while maintaining accuracy and follow-through. Working knowledge of records management, basic financial controls and applicable policies, procedures and safety requirements relevant to assigned work is an asset. Ability to perform reconciliations, prepare basic journal entries and support period-end tasks with a high degree of attention to detail. Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with the public, staff and internal departments. Demonstrated expertise in handling cash, routine inquiries and property tax-related transactions and ability to recognize when referral or escalation is required. Ability to maintain accurate records and use office and departmental systems with care and reliability. Demonstrated commitment to customer service excellence. Demonstrated ability to organize work, follow procedures and complete assignments within required timelines. Strong communication skills. Ability to work within, and contribute to, a positive team environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information, including cash and personal information, with discretion and professionalism. Ability to operate job-related software programs, administrative systems and office technology.  Ability to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner.

 

PAY RATE:

This is a union position with the pay rate of $37.03 as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.

 

HOURS OF WORK:

8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, 7 hours per day, 35 hours per week.
